Born in Alicante (Spain) in 1975, he began his musical studies at the Conservatorio Oscar Esplá in his hometown. He subsequently moved to New York, where he studied with Professor Ubaldo Díaz-Acosta, earning a Bachelor of Music and a Master of Arts from Hunter College at the City University of New York. He was a two-time winner at the Hunter College Concerto Competition and winner of the 2001 Artist International‘s New York Debut Award, making his New York Debut in Weil Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall on the following year: “Alejandro Picó-Leonís showed an enormous musical seriousness, a stylistic knowledge full of multiple colors and a beautiful sound” EL DIARIO, New York.
In Vienna, he studied with Professor Norman Shetler. He has also participated in masterclasses by Prof. Graham Johnson and Prof. Karl-Urlich Schnabel. He has been Assistant of Professor Gerold Huber at the Hochschule für Musik Würzburg (2013-2015) in Germany.
Alejandro Picó-Leonís has appeared as a soloist and chamber musician on important international stages such as Carnegie Hall and Merkin Hall in New York, Gasteig in Munich, the Carinthia Summer Festival in Austria, the Fundación March in Madrid, the Janáĉek Theater in the Czech Republic, the Aula Magna of the Alte Universität in Heidelberg and the Musikverein in Vienna. Gaining an intensely active career as a Lied pianist, Alejandro Picó-Leonís has given recitals and accompanied the masterclasses of such prominent figures as Francisco Araiza, Dame Felicity Lott or Angelika Kirchschlager. At the same time he has given impulse to many artists of the next generation. He is the founder and artistic director of the Schubertiade Wieden, a new art song and chamber music concert series in Vienna‘s historic Ehrbar Saal, celebrating its fifth Season (www.schubertiade-wieden.at).
Since 2008, he resides in Vienna, Austria, where he has been invited at concert venues, such as, the Beethoven Festival Vienna as Artist-in-Residence, the Beethoven Tage Wien, the Bösendorfer Concert Series at the Imperial Hotel, the Bösendorfer Hall, the MuTh, the Schubert Society of Vienna and the Schubertkirche Lichtenthal, the Music Salons of the Medical Chamber of Vienna, Schönborn-Bucheim, Ehrenfellner and Lobmeyr, as well as a guest at several benefit concerts for UNICEF, SOS Children‘s Villages International and the Austrian Bone Marrow Donation Center, among others.
In 2020, he played Beethoven‘s Piano Concerto No. 4 with the Ruhr University Orchestra Bochum. He has recently performed Manuel de Fallas “Noches en los jardines de España” with the Filharmonie Brno, the Orchesta Sinfónica de Málaga and the Blutenburg Kammerphilharmonie München.
Alejandro Picó-Leonís has given masterclasses in Spanish Art Song at the University of Vienna MUK (2012-2013) and Lied at the ESMAE (2017) in Porto. He has been a Lecturer/Collaborative pianist at the Wiener Meisterkurse (2013-2016) and the European Music Institute Vienna (2017-2023) in Austria. He has recorded chamber and solo CDs for Oehms Classics, Odradek Records, and Rondeau Productions. His recording with piano works by Mozart and Beethoven for Oehms Classics (OC797) received the Supersonic Award from the classical music magazine PIZZICATO (Luxembourg).
Last year he received in New York the 2022 Albéniz Institute Award for his artistic career and his interpretations of Spanish music.

Der Pianist Alejandro Picó-Leonís wurde in der spanischen Hafenstadt Alicante geboren.
2002 schloss er sein Bachelor- und Masterstudium an der City University of New York bei Prof. Ubaldo Díaz-Acosta – einem Schüler von Claudio Arrau und Alicia de Larrocha – mit Auszeichnung ab. In Wien studierte er bei Prof. Norman Shetler. Außerdem besuchte er Meisterkurse bei Prof. Karl Ulrich Schnabel und Prof. Graham Johnson.
Nach seinem erfolgreichen Debüt 2002 in der Carnegie Hall als Gewinner des Artist International NY Debut Award konzertiert Alejandro Picó-Leonís regelmäßig als Solist und Kammermusiker auf internationalen Bühnen. Zuletzt war er bei Festivals und in Theatern in Spanien, Deutschland, Indien, den USA, den Niederlanden, der Slowakei und Österreich zu hören.
In der Saison 2025/26 leitet er die fünfte Saison der Schubertiade Wieden im Haus der Ingenieure und Ehrbar Saal in Wien. Dabei wird Picó-Leonís zusammen mit jungen und etablierten Künstlerinnen und Künstlern wie Tobias Berndt, David Kerber, Maddalena del Gobbo, Julian Walder, Sona MacDonald, Ekaterina Protsenko, Raoul Steffani und Thomas Weinhappel zu erleben sein.
Als gefragter Liedbegleiter hat er mit renommierten Sängerinnen und Sängern wie Kammersänger Francisco Araiza, Kammersängerin Angelika Kirchschlager, Dame Felicity Lott und Wolfgang Holzmair zusammengearbeitet. Zudem war er Assistent des Liedpianisten Prof. Gerold Huber an der Hochschule für Musik in Würzburg und ist auch im vierhändigen Repertoire künstlerisch mit ihm verbunden. Er ist auch Gründer des Wiedner Klaviertrios.
Picó-Leonís widmet sich intensiv der Arbeit mit Sängerinnen, Sängern sowie Instrumentalistinnen und Instrumentalisten der jungen Generation. Meisterkurse gab er in den USA, Portugal, Österreich und Indien. Seit 2013 ist er Dozent der renommierten Wiener Meisterkurse. Picó-Leonís spielte CD-Aufnahmen für Oehms Classics, Odradek Records und Rondeau Productions ein. Seine Einspielung mit Klavierwerken von Beethoven und Mozart wurde 2012 von der luxemburgischen Musikzeitschrift Pizzicato mit dem Schallplattenpreis Supersonic ausgezeichnet. 2022 erhielt er den Albéniz Institute Award in New York für seine künstlerische Laufbahn und seine Interpretationen spanischer Musik.

El pianista español residente en Viena, Alejandro Picó-Leonís, ha cautivado al público con su excepcional sentido del estilo, elegancia y riqueza sonora de sus interpretaciones. Ha sido invitado como solista y músico de cámara en importantes escenarios internacionales como el Carnegie Hall y Merkin Hall de Nueva York, el Gasteig de Munich, el Festival de Verano de Carintia, la Fundación March de Madrid, el Teatro Janáĉek de la República Checa, el Aula Magna de la Alte Universität de Heidelberg y el Musikverein de Viena.
Nacido en Alicante en 1975, estudió en el Conservatorio Oscar Esplá de su ciudad natal, trasladándose después a Nueva York. Allí estudió con Ubaldo Díaz-Acosta (discípulo de Alicia de Larrocha y Claudio Arrau) y obtuvo los títulos de Bachelor of Music y Master of Arts en el Hunter College de la City University of New York, recibiendo además el premio Herbert Rogers del Departamento de Música. Fue dos veces ganador del Hunter College Concerto Competition y ganador del premio New York Debut Award de Artists International en 2001, haciendo su debut oficial en Nueva York en el Weil Recital Hall del Carnegie Hall al año siguiente: “Alejandro Picó-Leonís mostró una enorme seriedad musical, una sabiduría estilística llena de múltiples colores y un sonido maravilloso” EL DIARIO, Nueva York. Realiza una intensa actividad como pianista de Lied y música de cámara. Ha dado recitales y acompañado las clases magistrales de destacadas figuras como Francisco Araiza, Dame Felicity Lott, Gerold Huber, Angelika Kirchschlager o Miklós Perényi. Al mismo tiempo ha impulsado a numerosos artistas de la nueva generación. Desde 2021 es el director artístico de la Schubertiade Wieden, una serie de conciertos en la Haus der Ingenieure y la Ehrbar Saal de Viena, cuya quinta temporada comenzará en octubre de 2025 (www.schubertiade-wieden.at).
“…un genuino intérprete de Beethoven…” (FONO FORUM), Alejandro Picó-Leonís ha sido Artista en Residencia del Beethoven Festival de Viena y actuado en los Beethoven Tage Wien. En 2020 interpretó el Concierto para piano y orquesta No. 4 de Beethoven con la Orquesta de la Universidad Ruhr Bochum bajo la batuta de Nikolaus Müller. También como solista ha interpretado recientemente las ”Noches en los jardines de España” de Manuel de Falla con la Orquesta Filarmónica de Brno, la Orquesta Sinfónica de Málaga y la Blutenburg Kammerphilharmonie de Munich bajo la batuta de Jörg Birhance.
Como docente especialista en el arte del acompañamiento, ha impartido clases magistrales de canción española y Lied alemán en diversas instituciones en Austria, Portugal, Estados Unidos e India. Ha sido docente en los “Wiener Meisterkurse" (2013-2016) y el “Europäisches Musikinstitute Wien" (2017-2024) en Austria. Ha realizado grabaciones discográficas de piano solo y cámara para Oehms Classics, Odradek Records y Rondeau Productions. Su grabación con obras para piano de Mozart y Beethoven (Oehms Classics) recibió el premio Supersonic de la prestigiosa revista especializada PIZZICATO (Luxemburgo): «De tal seriedad y al mismo tiempo tan bello, de tal profundidad y al mismo tiempo de una ligereza tan natural, no hemos escuchado a Mozart últimamente».
El año 2022 recibió en Nueva York el “Albéniz Institute Award" por su trayectoria artística y sus interpretaciones de la música española.
